Taxes:
When are Taxes due?
Tax payments are due on the 2nd Tuesdays in September & March. (The next two payment dates are September 8, 2009 & March 9, 2010).
When will I get my tax bill?
Tax bills are sent in mid-late July.
Are postmarks accepted?
Yes, tax payments in envelopes postmarked on or before the due date will be accepted as timely.
How are Delinquent Taxes determined?
Any taxes left unpaid after the second tax due date become delinquent, 8% penalty & 1% interest are levied in the first month of delinquency. There is a 1% interest calculation for the first 3 months and 1.5% interest for each month thereafter.
Who do I contact if my taxes are delinquent?
The Town Manager serves as the Delinquent Tax Collector in Dorset.

Does the town maintain private roads?
No, the town is responsible for maintaining town highways. Private roads are owned by the landowners on that road, and they are responsible for keeping it maintained.
Why hasn't my road been plowed?
Dorset has over 40 miles of town highway, and a 4-person road crew to maintain the road system. The highway department arrives very early and remains on call during winter storms. Each crew member is given a maintenance route that can take lengthy periods of time to complete.
Dogs:
Does Dorset have a leash law?
Yes, Dorset has an Animal Ordinance that requires dogs to be leashed and under control of the owner/handler when off the owner's property.
Does my Dog have to be registered?
Yes,State Law requires all dogs more than six months old to be registered. To register your dog, visit or call the town clerk, present proof of a current rabies vaccination and pay the registration fee. Registration of dogs is required by April 1st of each year (dogs registered after April 1st will be assessed a late fee.)
